Ethiopian Air Force Marks 90 Years With Grand National and Global Celebrations

Addis Ababa, December 25, 2025 (ENA)—The commemoration of the Ethiopian Air Force's 90th year, scheduled to take place between January 23 and 27, 2026, underscores the organization's courageous history, contributions, and significant progress.

During his media statement today, Brigadier General Brook Seifu, head of the First Air Division within the Ethiopian Air Force, stated that for over 90 years, the air force has been recognized as a courageous and esteemed organization throughout the country's distinguished past.

It has been ensuring Ethiopia's independence, defending its skies, promoting air travel training, and standing proudly for the nation in global peace operations, he further stated.

As he mentioned, the anniversary initiative will include a range of significant domestic and global activities aimed at boosting public involvement, encouraging aviation top-tier performance, and fostering collaboration throughout Africa and further afield.

A 10-kilometer running event scheduled to take place in Bishoftu Town seeks to enhance the bond between the Air Force and local residents.

The Black Lion Air Show 2026 will highlight the power and honor of the Ethiopian Air Force, which will be showcased through the theme: "Where the Lions Dominate the Skies."

Additionally, the aviation display will include sky demonstrations, modern combat aircraft, and planes from the Ethiopian Air Force, along with foreign contributors such as the UAE Air Force, Russian aerobatic teams, and air forces from the Czech Republic and Morocco.

Several key events at the Aviation Expo 2026, set to take place on January 23, aim to promote cooperation and creativity throughout Ethiopia, the African continent, and globally.

The exhibition is expected to gather government representatives, business executives, producers, service companies, and air travel specialists to examine advanced innovations, elevate security protocols, broaden airport facilities, and boost management effectiveness.

It will feature approximately 20 leading aerospace technology firms from around the globe along with roughly 17 general aviation companies operating within the nation.

Furthermore, the Third Annual Future African Air Forces Forum (FAAFF) will take place on the continent with the theme "Cooperation and Collaboration for a Secure and Sustainable World."

The gathering aims to tackle common issues including regional security threats, humanitarian emergencies, and ecological preservation.

Approximately 38 Air Force leaders are anticipated to participate alongside veterans from different parts of the globe.

Another significant debate session will take place, highlighting community involvement and understanding of national security.

The 90th anniversary is marked with the slogan: "The Ethiopian Air Force: A Representation of Liberty and Togetherness."

Aviation technology arrived in Ethiopia for the first time on August 12, 1928, with the Ethiopian Air Force (EAF) being formally created as a national organization on November 28, 1935.
