Sylhet, January 4 – On Saturday, Syeda Rizwana Hasan, an advisor to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, urged addressing authoritarian elements via the forthcoming national elections, noting that previously defeated groups remain present but significantly less powerful compared to those supporting the revolt.
She delivered her comments while serving as the chief guest during the opening ceremony of an election-oriented training session for reporters held at the Sylhet Press Club in the morning. The event was arranged by the Bangladesh Press Institute (PIB).
Syeda Rizwana called on individuals to join the February 12 legislative election and vote freely, emphasizing that the present administration remains committed to conducting the elections amid numerous obstacles.
"Although the opposing group remains operational, their power has significantly diminished compared to those supporting the rebellion," she stated, emphasizing that democracy needs to be protected via citizen involvement in voting processes.
The program was led by Faruk Wasif, Director General of the Prime Minister's Office. Farzana Mahbub, Chief Information Officer, Md Sarwar Alam, Deputy Commissioner of Sylhet, Muktabis Un Noor, president of the Sylhet Press Club, and Khaled Ahmed, general secretary of the Sylhet Metropolitan Journalists' Union, addressed the gathering as distinguished speakers. She called on reporters to combat false information and rumors, and to promote honesty and fairness via ethical and in-depth reporting.
Approximately 50 reporters from the Sylhet Press Club and various other groups attended the seminar.
As part of this national initiative, 3,800 reporters will be trained throughout the nation regarding electoral regulations, declarations, conflict settlement, ethical guidelines, on-site journalism, voting-related media, verification processes, machine learning, personal protection, potential disturbances after elections, and costs associated with political campaigns, according to authorities.
