Senator Haliru Jika introduced a $100,000 E-nnovate Bauchi JENIUS Fund, which serves as an initiative for impactful investments designed to promote innovations led by young people, digital startups, and long-term economic growth within Bauchi State.
The initiative, launched in Bauchi, aims to transform creative concepts into successful businesses, placing technology, learning, and entrepreneurship at the forefront of employment generation, civic engagement, and equitable development.
JENIUS—standing for Innovation Exchange for Impact Investment to Empower Sustainable Communities—is the main financial component of the larger E-nnovate Bauchi Initiative, aimed at enhancing innovation environments and promoting development with a focus on impactful outcomes throughout the state.
As stated by the organizers, the fund aims to offer initial funding and organized assistance to emerging entrepreneurs, startup ventures connected with universities, and social businesses addressing Bauchi's biggest developmental issues.
At the event, Senator Jika stated that the program was developed to tackle a significant challenge encountered by young inventors—difficulty in obtaining initial financial backing, guidance, and organizational assistance.
Living in a world more influenced by digital citizenship and tech-based economic systems, innovation and entrepreneurship have become essential," he stated. "The JENIUS Fund represents a clear commitment. We are funding the intellect, imagination, and determination of Bauchi’s young people to develop answers for our economy, our democracy, and our tomorrow.
He emphasized that the fund extends further than just financial support, providing a 10-month acceleration program that connects innovations with market opportunities, policy goals, and tangible societal effects.
Based in the E-nnovate Bauchi Impact Ecosystem and connected to university-led incubation programs at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU), this effort aims to keep innovation rooted in local contexts, responsive to societal needs, and capable of achieving economic growth.
The $100,000 JENIUS Fund outlines specific performance targets, such as deploying $100,000 in impactful funding for initial-stage startups and social businesses, granting 10 innovation awards to promising initiatives, tackling 10 Bauchi Development Goals within critical industries, and conducting a 10-month JENIUS Accelerator program that integrates financial support, guidance, business growth, and regulatory alignment.
It features more than 50 young inventors and business leaders who receive support via incubation programs and access to markets, 10 impactful companies expanded within key industries, and more than 100 direct and indirect employment opportunities created through innovative development.
Officials stated that these results would place Bauchi as a rising center for impactful investments and youth-led innovations in northern Nigeria, drawing additional domestic and global funding.
Within the Bank My Tech Bauchi 10.0 structure, initiatives backed by JENIUS will concentrate on ten key economic areas that match Bauchi's growth objectives.
Among these are democracy, eco-friendly and marine-based economic models, safety and secure urban areas, healthcare, travel industry, arts and culture sectors, transportation, and farming.
As stated by program coordinators, the structure aims to make sure that innovation leads to tangible improvements in people's lives, enhanced public services, and long-term economic development.
An advisory leader for the E-nnovate Bauchi Impact Investment Fund characterized JENIUS as "patient, driven, and transformative funding."
"Through a structured 10-month process, well-defined growth objectives, and solid collaborations with institutions, the JENIUS Fund transforms grassroots innovations into expandable initiatives that can draw significant funding and produce tangible societal impact," the advisor stated.
