Bremen Sends Boniface to Austria for Knee Exam

Werder Bremen It has been verified that forward Victor Boniface will head to Austria for a consultation with a knee specialist, potentially leading to surgery, which could conclude his playing season with the team.

A 25-year-old player, currently on loan from Bayer Leverkusen, missed Friday's first-team practice session, as the club disclosed the cause just an hour prior to the team arriving.

A German football club mentioned that Boniface is "experiencing a knee injury which keeps him from joining team practices."

As per DeichStube, Peter Niemeyer, the head of professional football at Werder Bremen, mentioned that Boniface is set to meet with a knee specialist, Prof. Dr. Christian Fink, in Innsbruck on Thursday to evaluate if surgical intervention is required.

"Peter Niemeyer stated that Victor will go to Innsbruck on January 8 to meet with knee specialist Professor Dr. Christian Fink for an evaluation concerning a possible surgery," DeichStube reported.

The club has not shared additional information regarding Boniface's athletic prospects.

After practice, Niemeyer told the press, "We prefer to await the test results initially. The next steps will depend on those findings. We request some understanding."

As reported by Bild, Boniface won't play for Werder Bremen anymore this season if he undergoes surgery, since he'll miss the rest of the campaign while his knee injury will keep him out of action if he chooses not to have the procedure done.

The medical staff from both Werder Bremen and Bayer Leverkusen are said to have worked together and strongly advised on the treatment, as Boniface plans to obtain a third medical assessment prior to deciding definitively.

A surgery was previously discussed during the summer to treat cartilage injury in his knee, yet Boniface refused it then.

DeichStube mentioned that Bremen took the chance of lending him, expecting him to stay healthy and ready for games, yet this strategy did not work out as his knee problems have become worse recently, leading to a realistic evaluation by Niemeyer.

"We viewed it as a chance during the summer, and every opportunity comes with some level of risk," Niemeyer stated, according to DeichStube.

"At the conclusion, we must admit that everyone anticipated more from this loan. Regrettably, it did not unfold as we had wished," stated head coach Horst Steffen, as reported by DeichStube.

We are unable to alter the circumstances; we must confront them and strive to benefit from them.

While the contract with Bayer Leverkusen extends until 30 June, it is commonly anticipated that both teams will aim for an earlier resolution, with Boniface probably departing Werder Bremen ahead of the summer transfer window.
