Christmas Message: Sanwo-Olu Promises People-Centered Healthcare for Lagosians

The governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, stated that his government highly values the health and happiness of all residents of Lagos, emphasizing that no citizen should ever feel neglected, particularly during a time linked with affection, optimism, and festivities.

On Thursday, the governor made the statement during his address to patients and employees at Gbagada General Hospital. He was present through the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Ministry of Health, Dr. Dayo Lajide.

Sanwo-Olu stated that choosing to conduct the Christmas event within hospital rooms was intentional, designed to connect with those separated from their loved ones and to highlight the administration's patient-focused health care approach.

He encouraged citizens to adopt proactive approaches towards their well-being and consult healthcare professionals at an early stage, emphasizing that good health represents genuine prosperity.

The leader further pledged to patients and medical staff that the state administration remains dedicated to supplying essential resources for delivering high-quality and empathetic treatment within public health institutions.

Throughout the visit, the governor's team visited important areas of the hospital such as the Emergency and Casualty Department, Pediatrics, Men's and Women's Wards, along with the prenatal and postpartum units, where holiday presents were handed out to patients.

He praised the hospital's administration and team for their expertise, empathy, and commitment, especially those working during the holiday season, highlighting that their efforts made patients feel cared for and appreciated even though they were far from their families.

In his reply, Dr. Olusegun Babafemi, the Medical Director at Gbagada General Hospital, thanked the governor for the yearly community initiative, calling the action a source of motivation for both medical personnel and patients alike.

He mentioned that the festivities correspond to the state's objective of offering hope and motivation to patients as they pray for a rapid healing process.

Under the leadership of its president, Rotarian Tosin Olawoyin, the Gbagada Rotary Club collaborated with the government to distribute holiday presents, emphasizing the significance of partnerships between the public and private sectors in enhancing medical services and improving patient care.

The peak moment of the initiative was the ceremony where prizes and tokens were presented to the Employee of the Year 2025 and exceptional departments, honoring their achievements, collaboration, and commitment to service.

The trip concluded with an atmosphere of optimism and joy, accompanied by requests for recovery and increased vitality for those receiving treatment, as the Lagos State Administration once again pledged its commitment to placing individuals at the core of its healthcare framework.
