Festival Honors Twins in Akwa-Ibom

The The third iteration of TwinsFest concluded successfully in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, highlighting the region's status as Africa's spiritual and cultural hub for twin ancestry.

Recently held, the 2025 version attracted numerous attendees both inside and outside Nigeria, transforming the city into a hub where history, culture, and common human experiences converge.

Central to the festival was the lasting impact of Scottish missionary Mary Slessor, whose bold actions put an end to the practice of murdering twins in areas now part of Akwa Ibom. A heartfelt portrayal of her real-life experiences emerged as one of the standout highlights of the celebration, highlighting how compassion and determination transformed communities and brought honor to many individuals.

A notable feature was the Seven-Continent Cultural Parade, an vibrant parade that honored the shared significance of twins throughout various cultures. This display further solidified TwinsFest's rising status as an international cultural event deeply connected to African traditions.

In addition to festivities, the event continued to emphasize its charitable mission by providing financial assistance of N250,000, N150,000, and N100,000 to three sets of twins. This action demonstrated the organizers' dedication to turning cultural traditions into tangible positive change.

One significant achievement of the 2025 version was the establishment of the Mary Slessor Heritage and Humanitarian Trust Fund, created to support ongoing efforts in advocacy, strengthening families, and protecting cultural legacy after the yearly event.

Backed by Champion Breweries Plc, Zenith Bank Plc, and the Akwa Ibom State Government, TwinsFest has grown from an event into a movement that safeguards heritage, enhances unity, and places Nigeria at the heart of worldwide twin culture, as anticipation builds for an expanded 2026 celebration.
