Banditry Set to Fade in Sokoto – Governor Says

The governor of Sokoto State, Ahmad Aliyu, has introduced fresh measures aimed at strengthening efforts to combat banditry, vowing to eliminate this issue once and for all.

On Wednesday, the governor revealed this information during the opening of the 17th Routine State Executive Council meeting held in Sokoto, which marked the final council gathering of 2025, as stated in a release issued on Thursday.

Aliyu stated that the new initiatives, which support current security actions, seek to enhance information collection and boost cooperation with security organizations, adding that previous approaches had already produced favorable outcomes.

"Intelligence continues to play a vital role in countering criminals, and we believe these new programs will strengthen our ability to combat robbery effectively," stated the governor.

He emphasized that since taking power, his government has continuously provided security forces with supplies and essential materials to enhance their effectiveness within the 13 local government regions impacted by banditry.

Aliyu further urged locals to keep backing governmental initiatives by sharing prompt and valuable details with law enforcement authorities.

"As a government, we are prepared to take whatever steps necessary to make robbery a thing of the past in Sokoto State, yet we can't achieve this by ourselves," he stated.

The leader praised the members of the State Executive Council for their dedication, crediting the government's successes to their assistance and collaboration. He also expressed gratitude to the citizens of the state for their blessings and partnership, promising ongoing benefits from democratic governance.

Aliyu took advantage of the moment to commend the new Head of the Civil Service, Abdulkadir Ahmed Mohamed, and the Senior Special Assistant for Cabinet Affairs, Bande Rika, encouraging them to play an impactful role in advancing his government's nine-part Smart Innovation Plan.
