The Nigeria Content Development and Monitoring Board, together with Wedgewood Integrated Investment Limited, has provided training to 250 young people in Akwa Ibom State, focusing on popular self-sufficiency abilities.
They further provided participants with initial kits upon completion of the three-week training program.
The initial packages contain 72 business expansion kits featuring devices equipped with keyboards, mice, and pens, 67 compact sewing machines along with small sewing sets for aspiring fashion students, 57 miniature computers intended for graphic design, content development, and online advertising, 19 GSM/phone repair toolboxes, and 35 solar system installation tools.
The Chief Executive Officer of Wedgewood Integrated Investment Limited, Emmanuel Sanni, made these remarks during his speech in Uyo on Tuesday at the conclusion of an empowerment initiative titled 'NCDMB-Free Skills Empowerment Programme for Business Growth.'
He mentioned that the program was developed following a thorough evaluation of market conditions and shortcomings in current empowerment initiatives, noting that the vocational and business skill training is intended to enhance job readiness and lower youth unemployment within the region.
The program included five key domains essential for long-term self-sufficiency: clothing commerce, graphic design along with social media promotion, photovoltaic system setup, mobile device servicing and upkeep, and enterprise building with an emphasis on entrepreneurial skills.
"We transformed how businesses were viewed by participants, seeing it as the opportunity to trade skills for money, and this shift in thinking is truly what led to the program's success," he stated.
During his statement, Mr. John Barigha, representing the Executive Secretary of NCDMB, Felix Omatsola Ogbe, mentioned that the committee is dedicated to equipping young people with real-world abilities instead of providing temporary aid.
"We aren't providing you with fish; instead, we're showing you how to catch your own. The net we've handed over to you today is meant for you to venture out to sea and utilize it effectively," Barigha stated.
A recipient who introduced herself as Joyce referred to the program as life-changing, highlighting that it offered both technical expertise and guidance for starting a business.
