A Christmas Miracle: Lost Cat Found Five Years After Vanishing During Lockdown

A family's lost cat has come back five years after disappearing during the pandemic. lockdown .

Jilly Fretwell was deeply heartbroken when Bindi, her cherished five-year-old black cat, disappeared from Somersham, Cambridgeshire, in 2020.

A 29-year-old woman confessed that she and her family had essentially lost all hope of ever being reunited with their pet — until early this month.

It seemed as though a Christmas a miracle occurred when Jilly got a call from the vet indicating that a woman in Haddenham had brought in a black cat, which was identified as Bindi through its microchip.

The cat, who is now 10 years old, was in excellent condition and had been "properly cared for" and "immediately" recognized her owners.

Jilly told the BBC She has been away for five years, and on Thursday we received a call from the kind veterinarians in Witchford informing us that they had scanned her microchip and she would be returning home with us.

She sustained several minor scrapes that the veterinarian wished to examine, yet apart from those, she appears excellent. She is beautiful and shiny, properly nourished, and clearly cared for somewhere. However, we have absolutely no clue about where she has been over the past five years.

During the COVID-19 outbreak, Bindi vanished, and Jilly dedicated her everyday strolls to looking for her, posting pleas online and requesting residents of Haddenham to remain vigilant.

Although she is ten years old and has been separated from her family for such a long time, Bindi still shows love, enjoying snuggling with Jilly and resting on her lap.

Recalling the time the veterans contacted them, Jilly mentioned: "We took her from the vet, and it seemed as though she knew us. She immediately jumped onto our laps, offering cuddles, and it was an incredible experience. Truly a Christmas miracle."

Although Bindi's family might not ever find out what occurred to her since 2020, they think perhaps someone could have brought her in.

This follows earlier reports from the Mail about a man who was overjoyed when his cat came back home after being lost for 16 years.

In 2009, Carl Pullen mentioned that his six-month-old pet cat, named Sunshine, ran away from their house in Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire, and did not come back.

In 2023, an older cat who had disappeared for two years began meowing upon detecting her owner's smell when she was eventually returned home, having survived on the streets during that period.

Alison and Dean Lyng, residents of Chatham in Kent, mourned the loss of their cherished 25-year-old cat, Kizzy, in 2021 after she did not come back home one evening.
